BP Shipping Ltd is part of the BP Group (BP plc) and its core activity is to provide the safe and environmentally responsible transportation of BP’s hydrocarbons around the world. BP Shipping has a fleet of operated vessels, and also time-charters and spot-charters ships on behalf of the BP Group.
The Ship Operator will manage all post-fixture operations for controlled and spot chartered tonnage; co ordinating the day-to-day operational activities of owned, time and voyage charter ships and ensuring compliance with the agreed charter party terms. The position draws on expertise to safely manage the marine and commercial risks associated with moving hydrocarbon cargoes by sea.
– Prepare and issue voyage orders, including loading and discharge instructions in compliance with the agreed charter party terms. – Co-ordinate shipping requirements including identifying and analysing commercial opportunities as well as meeting all operational requirements and short notice changes. – Liaise on a day-to-day basis with charterers, technical and marine superintendents, oil operators, schedulers, ship brokers, ship owners and port agents to ensure efficient commercial operations. – Ensure that charterers, oil operators, schedulers, and traders are kept fully informed of latest ship schedules and programme. – Manage post-fixture operations for owned, spot and time chartered tonnage. – Participate in the weekend Operators and BP Shipping Emergency Response duty rotas.
Achieved a professional shipping and/or bachelor business degree or equivalent.
– Sound commercial awareness in terms of shipping charter parties and transportation of oil by sea. – Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment, and prioritise duties accordingly. – Self motivated individual who is able to work with minimum supervision. – Ability to be customer responsive, building and maintaining relationships with our customers. – Good oral and written communication skills. – Due to nature of this position, flexibility in hours of work is essential. – PC literate including, Word, Excel and Power Point.
